MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Mines and Energy Ministry has launched a new Digital Application System for Mineral Licenses to modernize the country’s mining sector.
Mines and Energy Deputy Minister for Operations, William Hines, described the launch as a significant milestone in making mineral rights administration more reliable, accessible, and convenient for miners across Liberia.
Deputy Minister Hines said the system is designed to address long-standing challenges such as the difficulty of obtaining licenses, the rise of illicit mining, and administrative delays.
He noted that he launch of the Digital Application System will reduce illicit mining by making licensing easier and more transparent.
Minister Hines also underscored the importance of continued collaboration to strengthen and expand the system.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Mines and Energy Minister for Operations reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring the success of the platform.
At the same time, the Chairman of the House Committee on Lands, Mines, Energy, Natural Resources, and Environment, Jeremiah Sokan, has praised the Mines and Energy Ministry for fully digitizing the mineral licensing process.
Representative Sokan noted that the shift marks a major step toward efficiency, productivity, and modern governance in Liberia’s mining sector.
He said the digital system will streamline all transactions, improve documentation monitoring, and boost the government’s revenue by closing long-standing leakage points.
Representative Sokan also stressed the importance of robust digital verification tools, noting that digitization must be used not only for efficiency but also to strengthen data accuracy.
He called for intentional and committed collaboration among stakeholders to ensure the new system is fully integrated and effectively used across the sector.
