MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS) has launched the validation of its 2025–2030 Strategic Plan, a roadmap aimed at strengthening fire prevention and emergency response across the country.
LNFS Director General, Warsuwah Barvoul, said,” The initiative began in 2024, when a dedicated team was assembled to define the service’s mission, vision, and core values”.
He emphasised that safeguarding lives and property requires a clear strategy to guide firefighting, fire safety education, and emergency services.
The plan will assess the service’s strengths and weaknesses while addressing key areas such as human resource development, leadership, logistics, governance, and technological innovation.
The theme of the validation, “From Response to Resilience: Building a Fire-Adopted Liberia through Strategic System Strengthening Action,” reflects the Fire Service’s commitment to transforming emergency response into long-term resilience.
Meanwhile, Director General Barvoul commended the technical team, Water Environment Climate Action Network (We Can), and all contributors, urging continued support to ensure the strategic plan achieves its objectives.
Presenting the strategic plan, Water Environment Climate Action Network (We Can) Consultant, David Seward, said it identifies gaps in the Liberia National Fire Service, including weak infrastructure, limited manpower, and outdated firefighting equipment.
He noted the plan focuses on strengthening administration and improving training for firefighters. Upgrading fire stations and enforcing a national fire code are also key priorities, he added. Mr. Seward emphasised the need for stronger government commitment to fully implement the plan.
He stressed the importance of broader partnerships to support the Fire Service’s modernisation. We can say the ongoing validation is a major step toward a safer and more responsive fire system across Liberia.
