MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Government of Liberia is expected to develop a National Employment Acceleration Strategy to address unemployment in Liberia.
The strategy, according to the government, will focus on investment-driven job creation, public works programs, skills development, and support to small enterprises.
It followed a Cabinet Meeting convened by President Joseph Boakai on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, in Tubmanburg, Bomi County.
In a communique issued by the Cabinet, the Strategy seeks to strengthen evidence-based decision-making to address the country’s unemployment rate.
The Cabinet also agreed to formalize national data collection systems, with key institutions closely collaborating to conduct regular surveys to ensure accurate labor statistics.
Meanwhile, President Joseph Boakai has directed the Liberia Institute of Statistics and Geo Information Services (LISGIS), National Investment Commission, Ministries of Youth and Sports, Labor, and Finance to coordinate the implementation of the strategy and provide quarterly reports to the Cabinet.
At the same time, the Cabinet has welcomed the submission of the Draft National Budget for Fiscal Year 2026.
It is the first budget to exceed 1 billion United States Dollars.
According to a communique, the Minister of Finance, Augustine Ngafuan, briefed Cabinet on allocations and revenue assumptions.
Following Minister Ngafuan’s presentation, Cabinet endorsed the budget’s strategic direction and pledged unified support during legislative engagements.
At the end of the Cabinet meeting, President Boakai emphasized that the actions taken by the Cabinet represent crucial steps in improving livelihoods, strengthening national security, and advancing Liberia’s development goals.
