MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Liberia, under the World Bank-funded Liberia Sustainable Management of Fisheries Project, has purchased a semi-industrial fishing vessel, “Sea King”.

NaFAA said the arrival of the vessel marks a new chapter in the development of the Fisheries Sector by contributing to increased catch effort, enhanced revenue generation, and expanded job opportunities for Liberians.

Speaking over the weekend, the Acting Director of NaFAA, Cyrus Saygbe, said,” The vessel will be operated through a Private-Public Partnership arrangement in line with NaFAA Act of 2017, the Fisheries and Aquaculture Management and Development Law of 2019, and the Government of Liberia’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development.

Saygbe disclosed that President Joseph Boakai is expected to commission the vessel on Monday, November 24, 2025, at the Mesurado Industrial Fishing Pier, Freeport of Monrovia.

According to him, the upcoming commissioning ceremony represents a transformative step in strengthening Liberia’s capacity to responsibly manage and utilize the marine resources.

As part of the ceremony, NaFAA will also showcase twenty-three newly manufactured fiberglass Kru and Fanti canoes, a major milestone achieved under the Liberia Sustainable Management of Fisheries Project.
