MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The former Minister of Mines and Energy, Wilmot Paye, says his tenure at the ministry was marked by transformative reforms and significant progress, despite inheriting a sector facing severe operational challenges.
In his official turnover report, Paye outlined the difficult starting point, which included a lack of electricity and internet, reliance on outdated geological data, and an absence of robust regulations for key mining activities.
The former Minister named the Energy Sector revitalization, restoration of international confidence, Mining Sector modernization, and global re-engagement, among others, as some of his key achievements.
He emphasized that those reforms were supported by strong financial management.
The former Mines and Energy disclosed that the ministry’s operational budget grew to 6.1 million USD, while the sector revenues surged to over one hundred twenty-four million USD, exceeding set targets.
