MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Liberia has begun intensive preparations for its 2026-2027 Term on the United Nations Security Council.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sara Beysolow-Nyanti, has identified capacity-building as a top priority.
Minister Beysolow-Nyanti called for international support to help build the technical and diplomatic expertise required for a successful tenure.
She used a high-level briefing with the diplomatic corps on Friday, November 14, 2025, to present a clear agenda for the nation’s preparatory phase.
Minister Beysolow-Nyanti told the ambassadors that for Liberia to serve meaningfully, it must be equipped with a robust and skilled diplomatic corps.
The Minister positioned the request as an investment in more effective governance, linking it to Liberia’s broader commitment to international peace and security.
Madam Sara Beysolow-Nyanti promised that Liberia’s contributions would be principled, guided by a respect for human rights and state sovereignty.
Meanwhile, the diplomatic community in Liberia has pledged strong collaboration with Liberia on its United Nations Security Council preparations.
The Doyen of the Diplomatic Corps, Ambassador Augustine Gang, said,” Liberia’s journey, from conflict to consolidation of democracy, positions it as a unique and credible authority on international security matters”.
Ambassador Gang, who is also a Cameroonian Envoy, reaffirmed the Diplomatic Community’s collective willingness to assist Liberia in its Security Council ambition to help further strengthen its national institutions.
He praised Liberia for its proactive diplomacy and directly linked its suitability for a UN Security Council seat to its successful post-conflict recovery.
The Cameroonian Ambassador described Liberia’s prospective presence on the Council in 2026 as both timely and commendable.
