Former House Speaker Koffa, Others, to Respond to Criminal Indictment Today

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Fonati Koffa, and fourteen others are expected to respond to their criminal indictment today, Monday, November 17.

Before their indictment by the Grand Jury of Montserrado County, several pre-trial motions to suppress evidence which was argued and denied by the state securities while being questioned.

Representative Koffa’s legal team then filed a Writ of Certiorari before the Presiding Justice in Chambers with the intent to overturn the ruling of Judge Roosevelt Willie.

A stay order was placed on the matter until the outcome of said conference with both parties, but the Justice in Chambers declined to issue that alternative writ and ordered the case to proceed.

The reading of the indictment to the defendants is expected to see them plead “guilty” or “not guilty” to the charges levied against them.

Koffa and the others are on trial for allegedly burning a portion of the Capitol in December 2024.

They were charged with arson, criminal conspiracy, and criminal attempt to commit murder, among others.
