MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberia Electricity Regulatory Commission (LERC) has officially launched the issuance of the first Solar Photovoltaic Installer’s License.
The initiative marks a major step toward strengthening regulation, professionalism, and safety in Liberia’s growing renewable energy sector.
Providing an overview of the program, LERC’s Licensing and Customer Relations Assistant, Alex Gborlee, explained that the initiative is intended to upgrade the competence and credibility of technicians serving in the electrical field.
He further noted that the licensing process will help ensure proper certification for electrical professionals and contractors across the country.
Receiving the first Solar PV Installer’s License, Mark McCauley praised LERC’s management and described the effort as a transparent and responsible move for the sector.
He also encouraged the government to prioritize the provision of safety materials for technicians. Meanwhile, Mr. Gborlee reaffirmed LERC’s commitment to extending the licensing program to universities.
Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the LERC Interview Panel, Deputy Minister for Mines and Energy, Charles Umehai, has urged recipient Mark McCauley to use his newly earned certificate strictly for its intended purpose.
Deputy Minister Umehai said the license represents professionalism and a renewed call to serve, noting that such recognition comes with responsibility.
He further described McCauley as a pathfinder in the sector, stressing that the task ahead requires commitment and hard work.
Meanwhile, the LERC Chairperson also extended congratulations to McCauley and encouraged him to exercise due diligence as he begins his new role.
