MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President Joseph Boakai has declared Thursday, November 6, a National Thanksgiving Day to be observed throughout Liberia as a National Holiday.
President Boakai, as part of the proclamation, called on Liberians and foreign residents, Priests, imams, Bishops, Pastors, and religious organizations to gather in their various places of worship to pray for God’s continued protection.
A Foreign Ministry release says the Proclamation aligns with an Act of the National Legislature enacted in 1883, declaring the First Thursday in the month of November of each year as National Thanksgiving Day.
The Proclamation stated that it is befitting that a day be set aside for the nation and its people to give thanks to God for His dispensation of grace, mercy, and providence, as well as the perseverance of lives.
It recounted that the Liberian people have always given thanks and praises to God for His tender mercies and manifold blessings bestowed upon them and the nation, especially for continuous protection in times of peace, disaster, and natural phenomena over the years.
