MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The House of Representatives has ratified a twenty-million-dollar financing agreement for the South-Eastern Road Corridor Asset Management Project.
The instrument was recently submitted by President Joseph Boakai, seeking legislative ratification of the agreement with the International Development Association (IDA).
The Chairman of the House’s Committee on Public Works and Rural Development, Ernest Manseah, said,” The ratification of the agreement is crucial to enhance the free movement of people”.
Representative Manseah added that the South East Road Corridor has huge economic potential, and is key to reviving Liberia’s road infrastructure”.
Meanwhile, the instrument has been forwarded to the Liberian Senate for concurrence.
At the same time, some members of the House of Representatives have begun soliciting signatures to adopt a resolution to curtail noise-making during regular session.
The resolution is an alternative measure to ensure perfect decorum during the session, and to uphold the dignity and discipline at the House.
The draft resolution followed an ELBC report about an uncontrollable pattern of noise-making by some members of the House in the chamber, especially during the session.
The lead sponsor of the resolution, Representative Emmanuel Dahn, said,” Upon the adoption, members of the House would be fined for disrupting plenary”.
Meanwhile, the resolution has been met with mixed reactions, with some saying that it undermines the current rules of the House.
Those who disagreed argued that, instead of a resolution on prohibiting noise in session, the existing rules must be fully implemented.
