Speaking at the 2025 UNESCO General Conference recently, in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. Dr. Jallah urged global leaders to see multilateralism not as bureaucracy, but as a moral covenant that demands action when vulnerable nations are left behind.
Delivering Liberia’s national statement, Dr. Jallah emphasized that “peace is not declared, it is taught,” invoking UNESCO’s founding ideals and Liberia’s own journey from conflict to international leadership.
She highlighted Liberia’s role as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council and its commitment to inclusive development through the ARREST Agenda.
Dr. Jallah also called for bold investment in teachers, gender equity in foundational learning, and a balanced representation of African sites in UNESCO’s World Heritage listings.
At the same time, Dr. Jallah has initiated steps to formalize a new partnership with Uzbekistan, following a productive bilateral meeting held on the sidelines of the UNESCO General Conference in Samarkand.
During the discussions, the Minister of Education, Dr. Jarso Jallah, and the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Innovations of Uzbekistan, Kongratbay Sharipov, explored areas of mutual interest aimed at advancing educational cooperation between the two countries.
The proposed collaboration will focus on student and teacher exchanges, scholarship opportunities for Liberian students to pursue higher education and technical training in Uzbekistan, youth entrepreneurship, and the promotion of STEM education.
This partnership reflects Liberia’s ongoing commitment to expanding international cooperation in education, fostering innovation, and creating new global learning opportunities for Liberian youth.
