Expanded Program on Immunization Launches Campaign…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Expanded Program on Immunization has launched a campaign to protect girls from cervical cancer through the Human Papillomavirus, or HPV vaccine.

 The campaign is expected to begin on November 17 and last until November 21 this year.

The Program Manager for Extended Program on Immunization (EPI) at the Ministry of Health, Yuah Nemah, said,” The vaccination program targets girls between the ages of nine and eighteen”.

Dr. Nemah noted that the vaccine is safe, effective, and it is a major step in preventing cervical cancer among women.

He called on media institutions to help spread the message using radio, social media, drama, and music to reach communities across the country.

Meanwhile, the EPI Program Manager also encouraged parents and schools to support the campaign for every eligible girl to receive the vaccine.

At the same time, Lila Kerr, Project Advisor for the Clinton Health Access Initiative on Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccine, has underscored the importance of fighting Cervical Cancer.

Madam Kerr said,” Cervical cancer is a growth of cells that starts in the cervix”.

She said the HPV vaccine is key to preventing cervical cancer, one of the leading health threats to women.

Madam Kerr called on parents, schools, and communities to support the HPV vaccination drive to protect the nation’s girls today for a healthier tomorrow.

The Clinton Health Access Initiative Project Advisor for Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccine is encouraging everyone to ask questions and share accurate information on prevention.
