Monrovia, Friday, October 31, 2025- Recent changes, affecting some officials, including Mines and Energy Minister, Wilmot Paye continue to send shockwaves across the country. The reactions, since the shakeup began, have been mixed but largely positive, with many commanding President Joseph Boakai for the way he’s not afraid to axe his officials who may have fallen short of staying on course with his development agenda.
Now the Liberia Political Centrism Movement, a leading non-partisan organization has welcomed the recent changes made in government by President Joseph Nyumah Boakai.
The Chairman of the group, Cllr. Kanio Bai Gbala said the changes demonstrate the President’s commitment to delivering on key promises to the Liberian people.
According to Cllr. Gbala, the Liberian leader seems to be repositioning his government for results, stating that such move is good for the country’s governance system.
In a recent interview, the former CDC Campaign Spokesman said the move should signal to public officials and the citizenry that the President is leaving no room for complacency.
Cllr. Gbala added “I think the President Boakai is done with this two year honeymoon. He’s now reorienting his government for results. I think that’s very good for the local governance ecosystem. What it also signals to the larger Liberian public is that he’s not taking complacency as a response anymore”.
Cllr. Gbala then described Mr. Samuel Stevquoah as a great choice for Minister of State, urging him to take charge of the state and bring together people outside the UP Alliance who are keen on collaboration and working with the government in many positive ways.
“It’s up to him to forge his path and take charge because he is the Minister of State. Stabilize the country, bring together people, not just the UP Alliance, but others in the opposition that are also keen on collaboration and working with the government in positive ways. I think that’s his responsibility, to be able to identify those types of voices and bring them on board, so that you have a multiplier effect for the President’s next four years in office” Cllr Gbala stated in an interview recently.
Meanwhile the Chairman of the Political Centrism Movement is calling for greater scrutiny of the Putu Mining Deal currently languishing at the National Investment Commission.
Cllr. Kanio Bai Gbala wants President Boakai look into the deal to ensure it reflects greater benefits for the people of southeastern Liberia, particularly Grand Gedeh County.
He said to date, the people of Grand Gedeh do not know what’s in the deal, noting that any intervention by Liberian leader will further add to his already demonstrated commitment towards improving the quality of life for citizens in the South East.
Speaking further, he said “I think it’s good to know that the President is reorienting and on a personal level, I will ask him to shine his eyes at the National Investment Commission, where the Putu Mining deal is still incubating. I’ve been calling for greater scrutiny of that deal so that it brings more results to the people of the South East, particularly Grand Gedeh County. To date, we don’t know what is in that deal. I don’t know why it’s so secret. So I will ask the President, in his wisdom and with all of this energy to please look over there for the people of the southeast and let’s know what’s coming to our part of the town, because we know he cares about that part of the Country”.
The Liberia Political Centrism Movement (LPCM) is a civic-political platform that promotes a balanced, people-centered approach to governance and development beyond partisan divides. Its mission is to build a prosperous, resilient, and equitable Liberia.
