MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has recommitted to ensuring a united, secure, and prosperous sub-region to foster economic cooperation and reduce poverty.
ECOWAS Ambassador to Liberia, Josephine Nkrumah, said,” The regional bloc will begin leveraging trade facilitation to maximize the benefits of regional agreements”.
Ambassador Nkrumah noted that ECOWAS will equip revenue authorities in the region with advanced digital tools to improve customs procedures and manage data.
Her speech was contained in a statement delivered on Monday, October 27, 2025, by ECOWAS’ Political Officer, Dr. Nathaniel Walker, when he turned over twenty-five laptops to the Liberia Revenue Authority.
The move seeks to enhance the Liberia Revenue Authority’s capacity to facilitate trade, synchronize data with regional partners, and strengthen Liberia’s active role in the ECOWAS common market, among others.
Meanwhile, Ambassador Nkrumah says the modernization of the LRA’s operations fosters a broader tax base, improves institutional quality, and streamlines payment processes.
In remarks, the Commissioner General of the LRA, Dorbor Jallah, expressed deep gratitude to ECOWAS for the donation.
Commissioner Jallah said,” The laptops will help enhance the Authority’s domestic revenue mobilization efforts”.
The LRA Boss described the move as a testament to the enduring partnership between ECOWAS and the LRA.
He said over the years, ECOWAS has been a steadfast partner, supporting LRA in crucial areas, including drafting and implementation of LRA’s new value-added tax regime.
Commissioner Jallah noted that ECOWAS is also strengthening LRA institutional capacity and broader domestic resource mobilization.
