Food Authority of Liberia Delegation Meets Justice Ministry Senior Officials

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-A high-level delegation from the Food Authority of Liberia (FAL) has met with senior officials of the Ministry of Justice.

The visit is aimed at discussing and providing clarity about the roles and responsibilities of both institutions regarding food safety.

The FAL Director General Precelia Cherue references the provision of the Food Authority Act of 2019, especially Part II, Section Two, which designates the Authority as the main body responsible for food safety and quality in Liberia.

A statement from the FAL said Assistant Minister of Justice Attorney Edrick Noah recognized the FAL as the authoritative body for food safety in the country.

The release said that at the conclusion of the meeting, both sides agreed to form a formal partnership to improve coordination between agencies on food safety.

At the same time, the Ministry of Justice will assist the FAL with legal enforcement mechanisms.

Both entities also reaffirmed their commitment to uphold the goals of the Food Act Authority of 2019 and to collaborate to ensure that all food products in Liberia are safe, wholesome, and meet established national standards.

At the same time, the Ministry of Health will on today, Thursday, join local and national partners to celebrate “World Sight Day”.

This year’s commemoration is held under the theme:” Love Your Eye”, and the slogan, “Every Sight Counts”.

It focuses on mobilizing parents, teachers, and health professionals to prioritize early screening and routine eye examinations for children.

The ministry is embarking on this journey alongside its partners to step up efforts to promote preventive care and early detection, particularly among school-age children in under-resourced communities.

A Health Ministry release said the goal is to screen about one thousand children across six public and private schools, distribute twelve thousand pairs of reading glasses, and provide treatment where required.

The ministry seeks to strengthen public understanding, encourage government engagement, and deepen collaboration with both local and international partners.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Louise Kpoto is urging parents to commit to regular eye tests for their children, while calling on schools to champion consistent screening programs.
