MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President Joseph Boakai is expected to address the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Tuesday, September 23, in New York, the United States of America.
President Boakai’s address is expected to focus on the Government of Liberia’s accomplishments and challenges thus far.
On ELBC’s “Super Morning Show” on Monday, September 22, 2025, Presidential Press Secretary Kula Fofana disclosed that the Liberian Leader’s address will also spotlight the country’s efforts in fostering peace, security, and democratic governance.
Madam Fofana said,” President Boakai’s remarks will highlight Liberia’s readiness to assume its role as a Non-Permanent Member of the UN Security Council in 2026.
According to her, President Boakai and other members of the Liberian delegation have been holding a series of bilateral discussions with world leaders and organizations on the sidelines of the ongoing 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
At the same time, the Liberian Leader has reaffirmed the Liberian Government’s commitment to ensuring that Liberia’s resources are managed with transparency and accountability.
An Executive Mansion release says the President’s statement followed the signing of four Production Sharing Contracts between the Liberia Petroleum Regulatory Authority and Atlas/Oranto Petroleum.
The release said the contracts, which include a signature bonus of US$12 million and an estimated investment value of US two hundred million per block, represent an important step in reviewing Liberia’s Oil and Gas Sector.
In the release, the Liberian Leader highlighted strong local participation, strict adherence to environmental regulations, and accountability, emphasizing that Liberians benefit directly from the opportunities created.
Atlas/Oranto, a privately held African oil group founded in 1991, while in Liberia, the company’s activities are expected to be guided by national laws and oversight to guarantee responsible exploration.
The release said the four Production Sharing Contracts will be signed by President Joseph Boakai, once approved and ratified by the National Legislature.
