MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberia Opportunity Industrialization Center counsellor, Rebekah Bertsche, has stressed the importance of International Peace Day.
Madam Bertsche said,” The day served as a reminder that peace is not only the absence of war but also the presence of harmony, justice, and cooperation”.
She noted that the significance of the day lies in its ability to unite people across cultures and borders, highlighting the urgent need to resolve conflicts through dialogue rather than violence, and to build societies where everyone can live with dignity and equality.
Speaking at the Civil Peace Service Liberia Network Program held at the YMCA in Monrovia over the weekend, the LOIC counsellor, however, called on Liberians to come together as one family to strengthen the ideals of peace, both within and among nations.
The day was held internationally under the theme: “Act Now for a Peaceful World.” At the same time, the Civil Peace Service-Network celebrated the day under the theme “Sustaining Peace in Liberia: United for Reconciliation and Drug-Free Future.”
At the same time, James Wakor, the operations officer of the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA), emphasized the need to preserve hard-earned peace to foster reconciliation among communities.
Wakor noted that the International Day of Peace is not just a commemoration, but an opportunity for action.
Meanwhile, the Executive Director of the Liberia Opportunities Industrialization Center (LOIC), Rufus Monroe, called on Liberians, especially young people, to unite for a healthier, drug-free society where peace and development can thrive.
Director Monroe said,” Peace must start with individuals making conscious choices for tolerance and understanding”.
Remarking, the LOIC boss disclosed that the day inspires everyone to play a role in building lasting peace and securing a brighter future for generations to come.
