Human Rights Lawyer Cllr. Gongloe Clarifies Recent Caution against Mercenary Journalism

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Human Rights Layer Tiawan Gongloe has clarified that his recent caution against mercenary journalism was not an attack on the Liberian media, but a plea for ethical journalism.

According to Cllr. Gongloe, a strong press is a daily classroom for truth, education, and responsible entertainment, and as such, the need for Liberian media to follow suit cannot be overemphasized.

Cllr. Gongloe also wants the Liberian Government to adopt a system that fosters transparent public notice spending, prompt settlement of media bills, and competitive training grants for community radio.

The seasoned Liberian Lawyer, at the same time, called on the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) for the enforcement of media ethics void of political control.

Cllr. Tiawan Gongloe’s statement was contained in a Facebook post on his official page on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.
