MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) has confirmed the death of one person and the injury of several others, following an oxygen explosion at MIRA Gas Company in the Freeport Community.
According to the NDMA Executive Director, Ansu Dulleh, the incident occurred due to what he described as contributory negligence among the workers and the overcrowding of the factory.
Dulleh said,” The incident poses potential long-term effects on the victims, including loss of sight and breathing problems”.
He quotes the Chief Medical Officer at the John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital as saying twenty-one workers were victimized, with twenty hospitalized at the hospital, and one at the Medical Diagnostic Hospital.
The NDMA Executive Director assured that the Agency will work with other relevant authorities to take some decisive action against institutions posing a life threat to citizens across the country.
Ansu Dulleh, at the same time, reaffirmed the Agency to responding to flooding in Liberia, while calling on international partners to assist the Agency in addressing floods in Liberia.
