Liberian Gov. to Receive First Batch of China’s Donated Food Aid

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Government of Liberia is expected to receive the first batch of rice donated as food aid by the People’s Republic of China.

According to a Foreign Ministry release, 14,400 bags of 25kg rice are expected to arrive at the Freeport of Monrovia this Saturday, September 20, 2025.

The release also disclosed that subsequent batches are expected to arrive throughout October and November 2025, as per the estimated times of arrival provided by the shipping vessels.

The grant from the Chinese Government was first announced in a bilateral meeting between Presidents Xi Jinping and Joseph Boakai, on the sidelines of the Forum of China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) last year.

The Government of Liberia has described the donation as a crucial intervention aimed at bolstering Liberia’s national food security and supporting the government’s efforts to stabilize the rice market for the benefit of all Liberians.

The grant of 3,600 metric tons of rice to Liberia was formalized in an exchange of notes between China’s Ambassador to Liberia, Yin Chengwu, and Liberia’s Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow-Nyanti.
