Human Rights Lawyer Cllr. Gongloe Calls on Liberian Journalists to Remain Ethical…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Renowned human rights lawyer and the Political Leader of the Liberian People’s Party (LPP), Cllr. Tiawan Gongloe wants Liberian journalists to remain ethical, transparent, and to reject gifts for coverage.

Cllr. Gongloe said,” A free, independent press can shine light in dark places, hold public figures accountable and equip citizens with the truth they need to govern themselves”.

He said,” The act of reducing journalism to cash for content politics can undermine fair competition, weaken institutions, and pave the way for chaos in society”.

The LPP Political Leader described such an act as ‘mercenary journalism’, which allows journalists to sell their pen and microphone to politicians, to turn lies into headlines and truth into casualty.

Meanwhile, Cllr. Gongloe wants media practitioners in Liberia to foster journalism that strengthens democracy and advances peace, progress, and prosperity.

The seasoned Liberian lawyer made the statement on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, in a social media post on his official Facebook page.
