MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Deputy Minister for Youth Development at the Ministry of Youth and Sports says the Liberian Government has taken unprecedented steps in addressing the plights of at-risk youth.
Deputy Minister Bryant McGill said,” An enhanced approach has been taken in implementing real community-based interventions in rehabilitation, skills development, and empowerment of at-risk youth.
Minister McGill’s statement is in reaction to what he calls ‘misinformation and falsehood’ from the former Deputy Minister for Youth Development under the Weah Administration, Issac Doe.
Doe, on a local radio station in Monrovia, claimed that the current Youth and Sports Ministry Administration is running the entity without any new ideas, but rather recycling old notes left behind by the past administration.
He also refuted Doe’s claim that the past administration left three million US dollars in the ministry’s account for programs aimed at addressing the plights of at-risk youth.
Deputy Minister Bryant McGill further said that the amount is only a commitment from the UN and not a lump sum of money sitting in an account.
