MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President Joseph Boakai has officially signed into law the 2025 Liberia National Tourism Act, marking a significant milestone in Liberia’s efforts to develop tourism as a major driver of economic growth and employment.
The Act establishes the Liberia National Tourism Authority (LNTA) as the principal government agency responsible for promoting, encouraging, and regulating tourism in Liberia.
The Act, which is an amendment to Title 30 of the Public Authority Law of the Liberia Codes of Law Revised, outlines the Authority’s mandate to foster tourism development as a key socio-economic activity, generate foreign currency and employment opportunities, spread the benefits of tourism across both the public and private sectors and serve as the regulatory agency for tourism in Liberia.
By Chapter 5, Section 5.1 of the Act, the President has appointed the initial statutory and presidential board members to guide the transition and formal establishment of the Authority.
Those appointed as Board Members of the LNTA include the Minister of Information, Presidential Option Members, and Ambassador Christopher Onanuga, Presidential Envoy on Tourism.
President Joseph Boakai emphasized that the establishment of the LNTA reflects the government’s commitment to harnessing Liberia’s rich culture and natural heritage to attract international tourists, stimulate local business growth, and create sustainable employment opportunities.
The Liberia National Tourism Authority will immediately begin implementing programs that promote Liberia as a competitive and vibrant tourism destination, while coordinating with stakeholders in both the government and private sectors.
