Pres. Boakai Welcomes U.S Peace Corps Volunteers to Liberia

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President Joseph Boakai today officially welcomed nine newly inducted U.S Peace Corps volunteers during a swearing-in ceremony held in Monrovia.

The event marks a renewed commitment to the long-standing relationship between Liberia and the U.S, as the volunteers prepare to integrate into the Liberian community and serve in education, health, and development sectors.

In his remarks, President Boakai applauded the Peace Corps for its decades of service in Liberia, dating back to 1962.

He described the program as a “pillar of people-to-people diplomacy”, noting that many U.S diplomats today are former Peace Corps Volunteers.

The President thanked the U.S Government for its continued support, emphasizing that, despite the challenges of the past, including war, Ebola, and COVID-19, the Peace Corps remains a symbol of resilience and friendship.
