MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Secretary General of the Mano River Union (MRU), Simeon Moribah, has emphasized the need for the governments of Liberia and Sierra Leone to address challenges impeding business activities of women involved with cross-border trade in both countries.
Ambassador Moribah wants the governments of both countries to institute measures for women in cross-border trade to have access to finance, flexible security, and a reasonable tax regime, as well as raise awareness to improve trade across the two countries.
He urged these countries to domesticate and fully implement international and regional protocols and conventions that seek to improve cross-border trade, especially for women traders.
Ambassador Moribah argued that these challenges affecting the women require the collective effort of relevant government ministries and agencies, including the various revenue agencies, the Ministry of Finance, and the Liberia Immigration Service, among others.
The MRU Secretary General remarked at the start of a three-day dialogue organized by the Mano River Union Secretariat, with support from the African Development Bank.
