MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Former Solicitor General Cyrenius Cephus has confirmed a trending social media post criticizing the government of former President George Weah.
Cllr. Cephus said, “The write-up was intended to voice his frustration over the manner and form in which the country was governed from 2018 to 2023.”
According to the former Solicitor General, former President Weah did not promote and protect those who stood in the vanguard of the struggle during his party’s days in opposition.
He said the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) government placed itself under the illusion of looking for experts and was comfortable giving contracts, placing the likes of the current minister of justice on committees and boards at the expense of its partisans.
Cllr. Cephus accused past leaders of spending more time gossiping, spreading lies, and undermining those who did not share their sordid views.
According to him, the former President was like a Christmas light only seen at official ceremonies and was only accessible to a few officials.
Cllr. Cephus said, “I am unable and unwilling to criticize the current government because the CDC overlooked a lot of good projects but little results”.
He alleged that cabinet retreats were set aside for great fun rather than any meaningful exercise to discuss critical issues.
Cllr. Cyrenius Cephus also alleged that Liberia’s foreign policy was on sale and could only go to the highest bidder, even at the peril of national development, with specific reference to the two separate votes against China.
While there has been no official response from the CDC, Representative and a ranking member of the CDC, Acarous Gray has termed Cllr. Cephus’s statement is a freedom of speech for which the party is paying no heed.
