MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Liberia’s Vice President Jeremiah Koung has disclosed plans by the Liberian Government to construct a permanent climate-resilient Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Headquarters in the next three to five years, setting a new bar for public infrastructure in Liberia.
The facility, when constructed, will be powered by renewable energy, showcasing green building technology and sustainable urban design.
VP Koung stressed key challenges faced by the EPA, despite receiving advanced scientific equipment from international partners like the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
He was speaking at the opening ceremony of the new EPA Headquarters and modern laboratory on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, in Monrovia.
Meanwhile, VP Koung thanked the EPA Senior Management Team, led by Dr. Emmanuel Yarkpawolo, for their remarkable leadership and commitment in spearheading the establishment of these new modern facilities.
At the same time, the EPA boss thanked President Joseph Boakai for his outstanding leadership role and unwavering commitment to leading Liberia in the right direction.
He also described the success of the project as a collective effort of both the workers and administrative staff of the institution.
Dr. Yarkpawolo termed the Agency’s new headquarters a strategic and dignified location that reflects the growing importance of environmental governance in the country’s national development agenda.
The EPA boss also noted that the launch of the one hundred thousand state-of-the-art laboratories will serve as a game-changer for environmental monitoring in Liberia.
The EPA Director General, Dr. Emmanuel Yarkpawolo, also reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to achieving the government’s agenda.
