Pres. Boakai Dedicates Model Senior Secondary School in Gbarnga….

MONROVIA, LIBERIA- President Joseph Boakai says the Government of Liberia will remain resolute in providing quality, affordable, and accessible education for all Liberians.

President Boakai said, “Education holds the key to national development, and as such, it is high time that the government begins to invest in said area”.

The Liberia Chief Executive was speaking at the dedicatory ceremony of the newly constructed Model Senior Secondary School in Gbarnga, Bong County, on Monday, July 21, 2025.

President Boakai said, “The dedication of the learning facility reflects government’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive development, which is focused on access, reform, and excellence in education”.

President Boakia said through collaborative efforts and the dedication of the facility, access to senior secondary education has been expanded, strengthened, improved, and enhanced in Liberia.

The State-of-the-Art Learning Facility, which was constructed by the Liberian government with funding from the World Bank, aims to support the advancement of quality education across the country.

For her part, Education Minister Dr. Jarso Jallah has described the newly commissioned 1.6 million United States Dollars school as the gold standard for future school infrastructure in Liberia.

The facility, commissioned under the World Bank-funded Improving Results in Secondary Education (IRISE) project, stands out as an ultra-modern learning space.

Minister Jallah underscored the importance of a merit-based admission system, prioritizing students from disadvantaged communities.

She affirmed that the project exemplifies the government’s commitment to equity, quality, and sustainability core values embedded in Pillar Four of the national ARREST Agenda.

The education minister urged local leaders, elders, and PTAs to ensure the protection and preservation of the imitation so that it continues to serve future generations.

At the same time, World Bank Country Representative Georgia Wallen has described as a milestone the completion of a transformative school project that represents progress in access to equity and learning quality across the country.

Wallen reflected on the years of collaborative efforts under the IRISE project initiated in 2019.

She highlighted that improved learning environment, nationwide textbook development and distribution, the training and deployment of female guidance counsellors, and strengthened teaching quality were among the project’s notable outcomes.

The event marked the culmination of hard work and dedication of national and international partners, including the Ministry of Education.

Madam Wallen further encouraged students to embrace their education as a tool for unlocking full potential.

Meanwhile, Bong County Senator Prince Moye lauded President Boakai for the realization of the school project.

Senatore Moye described the project as a historic blessing for the County and fulfillment of a long-awaited promise to the Liberian people.

He emphasized that the funding part of a 47 million US Dollars grant secured from the World Bank during President Boakai’s tenure as Vice President has now come to fruition under his Presidency with the facility delivered to the people of Bong County.

The Bong County Senator expressed gratitude for the government’s commitment to quality education and praised the Ministry of Education for ensuring that the construction met both donor expectations and the county’s aspirations.

Senator Moye concluded with a firm pledge from residents of the county to protect and maintain the facility through the County Education Office, ensuring that it remains a source of pride and progress for generations to come.
