MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Finance and Development Planning Minister Augustine Ngafuan has cautioned former Finance Minister against engaging in acts that have the propensity to besmear his character.
Last week, former Minister Tweah accused Minister Ngafuan of approving a reallocation of a portion of the COVID-19 Stimulus Fund for the school feeding program.
In an interview on the “Super Morning Show” on ELBC Radio on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, Minister Ngafuan said,” I confirmed the reallocation of the fund as proposed by former Minister Tweah.”
Minister Ngafuan also disclosed that the World Food Program (WFP) has deposited eighty percent of the money in the tune of over nine hundred thousand US Dollars into the government’s Consolidated Account.
Finance Minister Augustine Ngafuan urged former Finance Minister Samuel Tweah to focus on his current situation with the court trial rather than engaging in and sponsoring a ‘smear campaign ‘on his character.
At the same time, the government, through the Finance and Development Planning Ministry, has assured of overcoming a revenue shortfall of 6.8 million US Dollars in the first quarter of Fiscal Year 2025.
As of May 31, this year, the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) collected 336 million USD, falling short of the 343 million USD projected for the same period.
But, Finance Minister Ngafuan said,” The LRA, in close coordination with the ministry, is closing all revenue leakages to meet the budget target.”
He named some of the measures taken by the government as improving the government’s tax administration, closing loopholes, and digitizing the tax system at the LRA.
Finance Minister Augustine Ngafuan told the “Super Morning Show” that as part of several tax enhancement measures, tax audits are also expected to increase in the coming months.
