Liberia’s Asset Recovery and Property Retrieval Taskforce Threatens Extradition Requests…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Asset Recovery and Property Retrieval Taskforce (AREPT) has threatened extradition requests for individuals fleeing the country to avoid legal accountability.

 According to the Taskforce, it has been observed that some persons of interest are leaving the country for fear of arrest and prosecution over corruption.

Such action, the Taskforce stated, only deepens public suspicion and reinforces Liberia’s determination to recover stolen assets and uphold the rule of law.

It said that with the full support of international agencies and diplomatic allies, every legal avenue will be used to locate and return such individuals to face the law.

As part of AREPT’s mandate, the Taskforce has promised to activate formal diplomatic channels through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and initiate extradition requests under applicable regional and international treaties against those escaping justice.

Meanwhile, the Taskforce has promised to work closely with INTERPOL, ECOWAS, and African Union member states, as well as global asset recovery networks, to track the targeted individuals.
