Environmental Protection Agency of Liberia Concludes Climate Learning, Exchange Forum…

GRAND BASSA COUNTY, LIBERIA-The Environmental Protection Agency of Liberia (EPA) has concluded a Climate Learning and Exchange Forum for Senators in Grand Bassa County.

The Forum, according to the EPA, is aimed at advancing legislative actions for climate change mitigation in Liberia.

Subjects and topics covered during the three engagements include: Understanding the Scientific Principles of Climate Change and its Local Impacts, Liberia’s commitment to the global climate change framework, and the Role of Climate Finance in Supporting Liberia’s Climate Action, as well as the current status of the International Climate Change Negotiation, among others.

According to the EPA Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Emmanuel Yarkpawolo, the engagement with the legislators is part of efforts to develop a carbon market policy and climate change law.

He disclosed that similar engagement was held with members of the House of Representatives to ensure that the time and draft carbon market policy and climate change law reached their chambers, they would have had an appreciable understanding of the initiative.

Dr. Urey disclosed plans to also engage local communities to ensure that they form an integral part of the process.

Meanwhile, Dr. Urey has commended the Canada-based organization, Novasphere, for its support of the process.
