Fire Outbreak leaves Family of Twelve Homeless in Grand Gedeh County

GRAND GEDEH COUNTY, LIBERIA-A family of twelve, including the County Development Officer, Davidson Barlee, has lost their properties in a fire outbreak in Grand Gedeh County.

ELBC Correspondent explained that the fire was sighted when Mr. Barlee returned home to pick up his phone’s charger which he forgot.

Our Correspondent narrated that upon the return of Barlee; he discovered a blaze while the other occupants were at the backyard, doing their normal business unknowingly.

Davidson Barlee and family are currently squatting in an abandoned building, seeking help from the government, individuals and humanitarians.

Still in the county, the wild Chimpanzee Foundation, sponsored by the European Union, has launched the “Sustainable Forest Conservation” project at the Sapo National Park.

Wild Chimpanzee Foundation Country Director, Dr. Annika Hillers said:” The project is aimed at improving the capacity of echo officers and forest rangers.”

ELBC Correspondent noted that the four-year project will create medium for forest rangers to search and wipe out illegal miners and hunters.

Our Correspondent added that the project will also improve road rehabilitation, create Job opportunities and economic viability within the Sapo, Grebo-Krahn and proposed Kwa National Park areas.
