VP Koung Distributes Official Circular…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Vice President Jeremiah Koung has issued an official circular, disclosing the establishment of the Ministerial and Technical Committees for the Solar Independent Power Producer (IPP) 2 St. Paul Project.

The initiative aligns with President Joseph Boakai’s vision of enhancing sustainable energy, and it is expected to prepare the nation for competitive bidding on its first solar IPP project scheduled for October 2025.

According to a release, the formation of the committees is a pivotal step in mobilizing financing and streamlining the project execution process, ensuring that Liberia meets its energy demands through renewable sources.

The Ministerial Committee is expected to oversee strategic policy decisions and coordination among various ministries and agencies, while the Technical Committee will focus on the technical aspects of the project, including feasibility studies and tender preparation.

In his circular, Vice President Koung emphasized the importance of collaboration among agencies of the Liberian Government, private stakeholders, and international partners to foster an environment conducive to the successful deployment of solar energy solutions in Liberia.

The Solar IPP 2 St. Paul project is poised to be a landmark initiative in Liberia’s Energy Sector, enhancing energy security, while promoting sustainability and economic growth.

At the same time, Vice President Koung has called on the Liberian Senate to support the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development, irrespective of political affiliation.

Speaking in the Chamber of the Liberian Senate on Thursday, January 30, 2025, Vice President Koung said:” The national vision offers the best pathway to achieve rapid transformation to address the socio-economic needs of the people.”

He urged the Liberian Senate to cultivate a new mindset, approach, and policies that seek the welfare and prioritize the interest of Liberians.

Vice President Koung added that Liberians are tired of excuses, anxious for change, and ready for economic transformation, and as such, their interest should form the basis for collective actions and decisions.

He reaffirmed the Liberian Senate’s unwavering recommitment to advocating, defending, and making laws that will positively affect the lives of all Liberians.
