United Youth Donates to Flood Victims

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-More than eleven thousand flood victims in twenty communities have begun receiving food items to help in their relief efforts.

The United Youth for Peace, Education, Transparency, and Development, a local group working in the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Sector, in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Agency and the National Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Commission, is leading the initiative.

Provision of the food items is supported by the Network for Empowered Aid Response (NEAR) and Adeso.

The food distribution commenced Tuesday in the A.B. Tolbert Road community with the affected victims receiving rice, cooking oil, salt, and cubes.

On August 15, 2024, United Youth and the Disaster Management Agency launched the Emergency Response to Support Flood Victims in the Zayzay Community in Paynesville, with affected residents initially receiving hygiene kits.

At the start of the food distribution, United Youth Head of Finance and Administration, Decontee Weah, said:” The exercise is in fulfillment of the Organization’s promise to help the affected residents’ recovery process.”

Mr. Weah also urged the flood victims to brace themselves for more flooding as is being forecast by the National Disaster Management Agency.

For their part, the flood victims applauded United Youth and the partners for the gesture.

Flood-affected areas benefiting from the food and hygiene kits distribution include Zayzay Community, A.B. Tolbert Road, Kingdom Care, New Life, Kpanwehn, Gaza Community, Chocolate City, and Swagger Community, among others.
