Liberia’s Nat’l Elections Commission Releases Provisional Results…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The National Election Commission is today continuing the release of provisional results from the just-ended by-elections in Nimba and Grand Gedeh Counties.

Voting passed largely peacefully on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, in the Senatorial and Representative by-elections in the two Counties.

Early results released by NEC in the Nimba Senatorial race suggest that the ruling party’s Candidate, Nya Twayen, has so far obtained 19, 966  votes, followed by Samuel Kogar, of PUP with 3, 737 votes, and Thomas Gruppee in third place with 520 votes.

157 out of 736 votes counted so far, constituting 21 percent of the total polling places.

Thursday’s announcement by NEC is expected to include results from the Grand Gedeh District One Representative By-election.

The two by-elections were triggered by the election of Senator Jeremiah Koung as Vice President, and the death of Grand Gedeh County District One Representative, Erol Madison Gwion.
