World Bank Group Report Urges Gov. of Liberia to Prioritize Climate Actions…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-A new World Bank Group Report on Climate Change wants the Liberian Government to prioritize essential Climate Actions to promote growth and development.

According to the World Bank, there are mounting risks in which climate change could undercut the Country’s economy and push more Liberians into poverty.

The World Bank report highlighted the role of proactive action and calls for adaptation and better planning for low-carbon growth, land use, and investment.

It said while Liberia is among the lowest emitters of greenhouse gases responsible for global climate change, it is among the most vulnerable countries to climate impacts.

At the launch of Liberia Country Climate and Development Report over the weekend, World Bank Country Manager to Liberia, Ghana, and Sierra Leone, Robert Taliercio, proposed ways to strengthen resilience and finance climate actions.

Meanwhile, the report has called for the scaling up of reliable water and sanitation services to protect against heavy rainfall and storm surges.

It also recommended increased resilience in the operations and maintenance of unpaved roads and the exploration of public-private partnerships for low-carbon mass transit solutions.
