UN Resident Coordinator Describes Violence against Women “Structural Problem”…

United Nations Resident Coordinator, Christine Umutoni, has described violence against women as a major structural problem that must be addressed.

Madam Umutoni said:” A significant percentage of women and girls, aged fifteen-forty-nine, have experienced physical violence in Liberia in the last few years.”

She said it is time to put an end to what she called a “culture of dehumanizing people and making women second-hand citizens.”

The UN Resident Coordinator was speaking on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at a program marking International Women Human Rights Defenders Day in Monrovia.

Madam Christine Umutoni called for concerted efforts among partners aimed at raising awareness continuously and calling duty bearers of society to action.
