Nat’l Elections Commission Dismisses Allegation over Pre-marked Ballot Papers…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The National Election Commission of Liberia (NEC) has dismissed allegations over pre-marked ballot papers in Lofa County.

On Monday, November 13, 2023, rumors surfaced on social media about the discovery of stuffed ballots in Lofa County, sparking citizens’ and stakeholders’ concerns.

But NEC Chairperson, Davidetta Browne Lansanah, told ELBC on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, that the claims are false and misleading.

Madam Browne Lansanah said:” With the processes put in place in the presence of thousands of observers, there’s no possibility of such happening.”

The NEC Boss reassured Liberians about the protection of their votes, noting that they have all necessary measures in place to ensure transparency and credibility of the Presidential Run-Off Election.

At the same time, Madam Browne Lansanah has expressed concern over the action of some party agents who demanded polling staff to read out the names of voters prior to voting for identification on the Final Registration Roll.

She said:” Such action was against the polling and counting procedures and has the propensity to expose voters to undue scrutiny by unauthorized persons.”

The NEC Boss spoke on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, during a press briefing at the Headquarters of the National Elections Commission in Sinkor, Monrovia.

She denied reports that the Commission has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with political parties on the checking of voter names on the Final Registration Roll.

Madam Browne Lansanah added that the Commission remains committed to ensuring that the Presidential Run-Off Election is conducted peacefully.
