US Embassy Urges Liberians to Exercise Democratic Rights

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The United States Embassy near Monrovia is rallying Liberians to exercise their democratic rights by peacefully participating in the November 14 Run-Off Election.

The US Embassy says voting is a fundamental right that must be cherished by all Liberians.

US Embassy Charge d’ Affairs, Catherine Rodriguez, delivered a special message on Thursday, November 9, 2023, on ELBC Super Morning Show.

Madam Rodriguez said:” The run-off election is a further test of Liberia’s flourishing democracy, and electorates should remain peaceful during and after the election.”

She also re-echoed the US Government’s position to place visa sanctions on anyone who tends to undermine the country’s democratic process.

Meanwhile, the US Embassy wants the Government of Liberia to ensure that the Joint Security is provided the full financial support to enhance its operations.

Madam Rodriguez said:” Such support is crucial to ensure the safety of voters, polling staff, and the public, and the US Embassy looks up to the Elections Commission for timely information during the electoral process.”

Madam Catherine Rodriguez believes that timely information is key to combating rumors and fake news during elections.
