MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The European Union (EU) has distanced itself from media reports claiming that it backs the Presidency of Unity Party (UP) Standard Bearer, Ambassador Joseph Boakai.

In its Monday, October 30, 2023, publication, Heritage Newspaper carried a story captioned: “Development Partners Back Amb. Joseph Boakai’s Presidency, Want Weah Out.”

The story also carried the photograph of the EU Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium.

But in a statement issued on Monday, the EU said the story, attributed to member states diplomat, is without foundation, urging the media to act responsibly with integrity and professionalism by fact-checking stories.

It said all parties and citizens have a responsibility for the peaceful conduct of the upcoming election.

According to the EU, the people of Liberia have shown their strong commitment to democracy in the peaceful general election on October 10, by turning out in high numbers.
