Liberian Gov. Completes Payment for Conduct of Run-Off Election

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Government of Liberia has provided three hundred thousand US Dollars to the National Elections Commission (NEC) as balance payment for the Run-Off Election.

The money is part of the total amount budgeted for the 2023 Elections.

NEC Chairperson Davidetta Brown-Lansanah told local media on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, that all is now set for the Run-Off Election on the stipulated date as enshrined in the Liberian Constitution.

She said:” The Commission has begun preparations to ensure that all procurable materials are processed and available for the process.”

The NEC Boss hailed the Liberian Government and partners for the level of support to the Commission, describing such interventions as remarkable and enormous.

Meanwhile, the National Elections Commission (NEC) has clarified that registered voters will only vote in areas they previously registered in the first round of the elections, and not just anywhere.

The Commission’s clarification is in reaction to widespread speculations that registered voters can vote anywhere in the ensuing Presidential Run-Off since the country is deemed a constituency for the Presidential race.

But, NEC Chairperson, Davidetta Brown-Lansanah, said:” Registered voters will not be allowed to vote anywhere, if they failed to proceed to the places they previously registered.”

Madam Brown-Lansanah said the voting process begins with an identity check in line with the Final Registration Roll as an initial step for an electorate to cast his or her ballot.

The National Elections Commission Boss is, therefore, encouraging citizens to strictly adhere to the electoral regulations, to avoid unnecessary confrontation during polling day across the country.
