Nat’l Public Health Institute Commits to Promote International Health Regulations

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL) says the Government of Liberia is committed to the promotion of International Health Regulations.

NPHIL Deputy Director General for Technical Services, Dr. Julius Gilayeneh, said:” Government’s commitment extends to the National Action Plan and Global Health Security.”

The NPHIL Deputy Boss also noted that the Government is prepared to safeguard the health and well-being of every citizen, and expressed optimism that the country will continue demonstrating unwavering courage to protect its citizens and contribute to global security.

Meanwhile, Deputy Health Minister for Administration, Norwu Howard, has underscored Liberia’s preparedness to rapidly respond to major outbreaks.

Madam Norwu said:” The country has successfully responded to outbreaks amid critical gaps to conscientize the   citizenry on epidemic and pandemic.”

She then called on relevant authorities and partners to ensure the improvement of local communities for the safety of the people.

In remarks, the World Health Organization (WHO) Country Representative, Dr. Peter Clement, has pledged his entity’s commitment to supporting the Government in strengthening its health agenda for the safety of all Liberians.

Dr. Peter Clement said:” The WHO will ensure that the capacities of those at the lower level are strengthened to rapidly respond to any public health threats.”

Dr. Peter Clement spoke at the start of Liberia’s ongoing Joint External Evaluation (JEE) of the International Health Regulations Core Capacities on Monday, September 4, 2023, at the Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf Ministerial Complex in Congo Town, outside Monrovia.
