MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The United Nations Office in Liberia has hailed the Liberian Government for fully funding this year’s elections.

UN Resident Coordinator Christine Umotoni said:” The UN and other partners are happy for the support coming from the Government to the National Elections Commission (NEC).”

She said:” Some demonstration of support to the electoral body is a testament of Government to enhancing Liberia’s flourishing democracy.”

Madam Umotoni said:” This year’s election is happening at a time where Liberia is fully responsible for its own security with UNMIL leaving long since.”

The UN Envoy was speaking on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, during the launch of the Women’s Situation Room, an initiative to promote a peaceful electoral process in Liberia.
