Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) Clarifies Alleged Power Cut

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Management of the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) has clarified the report that the power generated from La Cote d’Ivoire, through the CLSG, has not been cut off.

A LEC release described the report as false and misleading, as the entity continues to receive power from La Cote d’Ivoire, through the CLSG, at the contracted capacity of 27 Mega Watts.

According to the release, the contracted capacity is the amount of energy agreed on to supply the LEC under the Power Purchase Agreement.

The release clarified that the contracted capacity from CI Energies will not meet LEC’s peak demand, which currently exceeds 70 Mega Watts.

The release, however, said additional power is being generated by the LEC at 47 Mega Watts, which provides a combined capacity with CLSG of 74 Mega Watts.

The entity said it also generates additional power, though it is a thermal and hydropower plant.
