Liberia Immigration Service, partners to repatriate migrants to home countries…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberia Immigration Service (LIS), in collaboration with the Embassies of Nigeria and Cameroon, has brought to Monrovia the recently rescued migrants from Grand Kru County.

The twelve migrants, eleven Nigerians and a Cameroonian are currently being kept in a safe home, and cater to by the LIS and partners.

Speaking at a press conference Wednesday, September 21, 2022, LIS Commissioner General, Colonel Robert Budy, said:” The institution is working with the necessary authorities to repatriate the rescued migrants.”

Col. Budy reiterated the Liberian Government’s commitment to protecting the territorial confines of Liberia.

 Also speaking at the press conference, both the Cameroonian and Nigerian Ambassadors lauded the Government of Liberia for promptly taking siege of the matter.

Ambassadors Beng’yela Gang and Godfrey Oduoligbo promised to liaise with the LIS in making sure that the rescued migrants are properly taken care of, and finally repatriated to their home countries.

The twelve migrants were rescued by fishermen off the shores of Grandcess, Grand Kru County, after they were dumped in the water by a Panama Flagged Vessel known as MV- Ophelia.
