Gov’t urged to fund Central Agriculture Research Institute (CARI) adequately

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Government of Liberia has been urged to allot more funding to the Central Agriculture Research Institute (CARI) in Suakoko, Bong County.

Africa Rice Country Representative, Dr. Akintayo Inoussa, said:” CARI is struggling to survive due to limited funding.”

Dr. Inoussa stated that there can be no flourishing agriculture sector without a strong and well supported research h institute.

He spoke over the weekend at the end of two-day training for extensionists in rice farming in Suakoko.

He said:” Research needs to be strengthened for a more vibrant agriculture sector in Liberia.”

Also speaking, Deputy Agriculture Minister George Vorkpoh, urged beneficiaries of training to implement lessons learnt to improve rice production in the County.

Minister Vorkpoh said:” There is a gradual shift into Extension Advisory Services Delivery System for which extensionists must play cardinal role with farmers on the field.”
