Affected residents around Bea Mountain Company demand relocation…..

GRAND CAPE MOUNT COUNTY, LIBERIA-Affected residents of the recent Bea Mountain water pollution, in Grand Cape Mount County, have re-echoed call for the company to unconditionally relocate them.

The most affected residents are of Geekarnor near the Company’s mine, and are said to be insisting on relocation due to the impact of the pollution on their livelihoods.

The Development Committee Co-Chair of Kinjor, Boakai Swaray, told ELBC on Monday, September 5,2022, that the chemical seriously polluted water sources and rendered the area unsafe for residents, contrary to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’ report.

Mr. Swaray maintained that though the company is making petit interventions in an effort to cover up its mistake, the impact of the pollution remains detrimental to the survival of the residents.

For his part, Community Relations Superintendent, Henry Vincent, said:” The water has since been tested and proven safe by environmental authorities.”

Mr. Vincent said the Company has since been providing assorted food items to affected residents, stating that Bea Mountain remains committed to its corporate social responsibility to the people of the area.
