Gov’t disproves report of arrest of Isaac Van Tukpah

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberian Government has refuted media reports claiming the arrest of Isaac Van Tukpah, author of a book containing obscene and defaming materials against the First Family.

Mr. Tukpah who attempted fleeing the Country on Tuesday night, February 1, 2022, using an unauthorized crossing in Tienni, Grand Cape Mount County, was instead prevented from doing so, because the borders were already closed.

A MICAT release issued recently said Mr. Tukpah was without appropriate travelling documents, in attempting to cross when the borders were officially closed.

The Ministry of Information said such action claimed the attention of the assigned Immigration Officer, who acted in accordance to law and held him for his safety, given the late hours of his surreptitious attempt to leave the Country.

He was then brought to the Immigration Headquarters in Monrovia on Wednesday morning, February 2, 2022, and turned over to his lawyers.

The MICAT Statement also quotes President Weah as saying Mr. Tukpah has not being sought after by the Liberian Government, and that he is free to live in Liberia or travel out of the Country.

The President, however, said:” His family will decide on options for a legal recourse, whether in Liberia or the United States.”
