Health Ministry, partners launch Cancer Screening and Treatment Program

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Ministry of Health, with support from partners and the National Cancer Control Committee, has officially launched a cancer screening and treatment program in Monrovia.

The program is aimed at taking the surge in cases of breast and cervical cancers in Liberia.

Health Minister Wilhelmina Jallah said:” The exercise will consolidate efforts to help reduce the prevalence of cancer across the Country.”

Dr. Jallah noted that Liberia has recorded more than two-hundred cases of breast, cervical and prostate cancers.

Minister Jallah disclosed that the Redemption and C.B. Dunbar Hospitals, as well as other Government-run hospitals across the Country will soon begin screening persons for possible infection.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) has donated a consignment of assorted surgical equipment to the Ministry of Health, to curb the rising wave of breast and cervical cancers in Liberia.

Receiving the equipment Tuesday, December 7, 2021, Health Minister Jallah said the equipment will boost the efforts of health authorities in containing the spread of the disease.

Madam Jallah lauded the WHO for the donation and urged the organization to employ plans to train health workers on how to operate the equipment.
