LIS Commissioner-General Buddy wants urgent efforts to address growing human trafficking

MONROVIA, LIBERIA -The Commissioner General of the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) has called for urgent national efforts in addressing the growing of human trafficking.

Commissioner Robert Buddy described human trafficking as the fastest growing crime that undermines national economies and human safety.

He said while there are efforts from the international community to fight against human trafficking; much needs to be done to eradicate such an organized international crime.

According to Col. Buddy, trafficking-in-persons is a grave violation of human rights which threatens national security and undermines sustainable development and the rule of law.

The LIS Commissioner General was speaking over the weekend in Grand Bassa County at programs marking the International Day against Trafficking-In-Persons.

He wants Liberia to tap into help provided by the United Nations and other partners to draft laws and create comprehensive national anti-trafficking strategies for effective prevention.
